Bittersweet Day at LPR

As is the norm here at Lagoon Park the racing was great, fast and competitive, the weather was great, the sun was out and everybody was having fun.  But there was sadness in the air today.  For today we are saying good-bye, no that is too permanent, let's borrow a word form our Island State of Hawaii and say Aloha to one of our own.

You see today is the last race of a racer, at least as a local, that has meant not only a great deal to local racing but to Quarter Scale racing Nationwide.

That man is Bob Claussen.  Bob is moving to Nevada to be closer to his son, Jay, who lives in California.  Too say that Bob is going to missed is the understatement of the year.  Bob Claussen is and always has been a class act and a leader of our club, both in leadership roles and as a member Bob has always been someone I have turned to for advice and guidance in making decisions for our club and his input will be greatly missed.

I have had the pleasure of knowing and racing with Bob for close to 20 years not once have I seen him unwilling to lend a hand to the race or a fellow racer.

For those of you who do not know him I will give you a brief rundown of some of the things that Bob has contributed too.

He is an original member of the CCRC, the first meeting was at Bob's house and he has been actively involved with the club ever since.  He has also served as a Co-Chair for more than one term with QSAC, his  role as a Co-Chair in the early days of QSAC were when the manufacturers turned over the every-day duties to the racers.  Bob has been instrumental in laying the groundwork for the racing we all enjoy today.

While we are losing an every weekend racer, we are not losing a friend or a member, Bob will ALWAYS be a member of CCRC.

So to our West Coast fellow racers, you are gaining an asset to your racing and you are lucky to have him.  Not only that you guys are going to see just how fast us Southeast guys are on a regular basis.

As soon as I heard from Allen early in the year that Bob was wanting to move we put in motion that as soon as he was ready we would present Bob with a token of our appreciation for all he has done.

We came up with the "Capitol City Racing Club, Lagoon Park Raceway Lifetime Achievement Award"

On the Award it reads as follows:

Lifetime Achievement

To show our deep appreciation
It is both an Honor and Privilege
To Present
Bob Claussen
with the CCRC and LPR Lifetime Achievement Award
In Recognition of your years of Hard Work, Dedication and Guidance
In making this Club and Track the Standard for Others to Follow.
