BHASC replacement: SOWF 500 - Oct. 24-25

The Boyd Hughes All-Star Challenge (BHASC) was one of the premier races for 1/4 Scale racers across the nation and ran for 9 years and only had one (1) repeat winner during those 9 years (Todd Holloway 2012 & 2013).

This race was to set up a College Fund for Caitlin Hughes (daughter of Boyd Hughes - a long time racer at LPR). As Caitlin is scheduled to head to college this year it is time for LPR to continue with a new tradition based on the BHASC idea.

Since the BHASC was set up as a College Fund the club wanted to find something that followed those lines and since this area of Alabama has several local Military Bases within a few miles of the track, that along with our great appreciation of what all veterans of the military have done for each and everyone of us it was decided that the membership wanted to support a Military/Veterans Foundation that primarily provided College Funds to Military personnel or family members in some fashion.

Also, it was important that the Foundation must be a top-rated nonprofit organization that was very responsible with the funds that they administrated.

After due diligence LPR has found that foundation.

The Special Operations Warrior Foundation (SOWF) is that foundation. The SOWF is the recipient of its 8th consecutive 4-star rating, placing the SOWF among the top 1% of charities rated by Charity Navigator.

The foundation supports the military's special operations forces and their families through three programs:

The largest of which is College Scholarships for the surviving children of fallen Special Operations Forces.

Lagoon Park Raceway & the Members of the Capitol City Racing Club are proud to announce the SOPW 500 has been scheduled for October 24-25, 2014. This is a little earlier in the year than the BHASC was to help the out of town racers who have attended the BHASC before as the weather should be more conductive to travel.

You may have seen the Special Operations Warrior Foundation lately as they were involved with the 5 Hour Energy Sponsorship of the Kansas NASCAR race and also currently have a relationship with 5 Hour Energy.

We invite all racers, (both existing BHASC supporters and those new) to come and support this new endeavor which expounds on the concept and the tradition established by the BHASC.

Racing Classes will be Sportsman, Novice, Sprint Car and ECM with the Sportsman Class being a 500 Lap event. QSAC Membership required and QSAC rules apply.

Look for more details to come.
