Race #4 of 4 of the Finale for the 2014 Track Championship November 8 Race Report

Seven (7) cars were on hand for the Race #4 of 4 of the Finale for the 2014 Track Championship.

This last points race would determine the 2014 Track Championship along with positions 2nd thru 4th.
Due to the number of cars entered the battle for the 2014 Track Championship would boil down to Jerry Evans, current points leader, and 2nd place Mike Clark. One of these drivers would be the 2104 Track Champion and the other could finish no lower than 2nd. Can Mike Clark make up the 22 point deficient?

Third (3rd) and fourth (4th) place was only separated by One (1) point – with Wayne Rogers holding 3rd and Eddie Dunn wanting to take that position from him.

The temperature was comfortable in the mid 70s.

The Bonus Points could come into play for the battle between 1st and 2nd so could either Jerry or Mike take the 1st bonus point that is available for being TQ of Single Car Qualifying.
Before qualifying in practice Jerry Evans changed from his TNT chassis to a Lightning chassis as he was not happy with the way the TNT was performing. Is this a sign that Jerry was feeling the pressure?

The top 3 Single Car Qualifying results were 3rd Scott Harper (TNT) @ 6.838 seconds, 2nd Mike Clark (TNT) @ 6.801  and 1st Jerry Evans (Lightning) @ 6.721 seconds.  Thus Jerry would take the bonus point. By collecting 1 Bonus Point Jerry had only to finish 5th in the Main to clinch the 2014 Track Championship. But Mike Clark was showing right off the bat that he has the speed to Win and/or be competitive with Jerry.

After Qualifying the Group 1 Racers were Jerry Evans, Mike Clark, Scott Harper, and Cliff Scales.

Group 1 Heat Winners were Heats 1 & 2 by Scott Harper (TNT) and Heat 3 by Jerry Evans (Lightning).

Fast Laps for Heats: 1 – Jerry Evans 6.061, 2 – Jerry Evans 6.093 and 3 – Jerry Evans 6.013 seconds.

Lap Leaders:
Heat 1 – Jerry Evans 1-27, Scott Harper 28-50.

Heat 2 – Cliff Scales 1-2, Jerry Evans 3, 7-9, Scott Harper 4-6, 10-11, 15-19, 23-50, Mike Clark 12-14, 20-22.
Heat 3 – Jerry Evans 1-50.

Group 2 Racers were Wayne Rogers, James Adamson Eddie Dunn, and Eddie Dunn.

Group 2 Heat Winners were Heats 1 by James Adamson (PRO1), Heats 2 & 3 by Wayne Rogers (Lightning).

Fast Laps for Heats: 1 – James Adamson 6.401, 2 – James Adamson 6.409 and 3 – Eddie Dunn (Lightning) 6.353 seconds.

Lap Leaders:
Heat 1 – Wayne Rogers 1-25, 27-28, James Adamson 26, 30-50.

Heat 2 – Eddie Dunn 1-6, James Adamson 7, Wayne Rogers 8-50.
Heat 3 – Wayne Rogers 1-50.

Reviewing the heats for the Racers in the Points Race, current Points Leader Jerry Evans had a 3rd, a 2nd and a 1st and had the fast lap of each heat. Mike Clark in the same heats had a 2nd, a 3rd and a 2nd. Mike had the 2nd fast lap of the 3 heats. So again Jerry was a tad faster but Mike was right there behind him. The Championship would be decided in the Main.
Wayne Rogers had a 2nd, 1st & 1st compared to Eddie Dunn who had a 3rd, 3rd and a 2nd in the same heats. Wayne collected the Bonus Point for TQ of the heats, but there were not enough bonus points available to change the battle for 3rd it would come down to who finished ahead of the other.

Lineup of the Main was:
1st Wayne Rogers (Lightning)
2nd Jerry Evans (Lightning)
3rd Scott Harper (TNT)

4th James Adamson
5th Mike Clark
6th Eddie Dunn
7th Cliff Scales

Wayne Rogers would lead laps 1-12 until Jerry Evans took the position on lap 13.  Jerry would hold the position until lap 15 where Scott Harper moved to the front.
James Adamson dropped out on lap 40 due to a loose hub that was a result from a bent A-Arm repairs that happen during heat race #2 which caused him to miss heat #3.

Eddie Dunn had some type of mechanical breakdown and brought his car in right before the halfway point to see if he could make repairs, this left Wayne Rogers path to locking up the 3rd position in points if he did not have an issue much easier, especially if Eddie could not make repairs.
Scott Harper would lead laps 16 -75 and bring the cars into the pits for the halfway fuel stop.

At the fuel stop Scott Harper was 1st, Mike Clark 2nd, Jerry Evans 3rd, Cliff Scales 4th, Wayne Rogers 5th, Eddie Dunn 6th, and James Adamson retired off track 7th.
Mike Clark kept pace with Scott Harper for a long time after the restart, and towards the end fought him hard to stay on the lead lap as Jerry Evans had dropped a lap down and Mike needed the win to have a chance at the Track Championship.

Scott would not lap Mike but took the win with Mike Clark 2nd on the same lap. Mike didn’t get that “debris” caution he was looking for.
Finishing order for the Main.

1st Scott Harper – TNT (Won 3 of the 4 Finale’ races)
2nd Mike Clark – TNT
3rd Jerry Evans – Lightning
4th Cliff Scales
5th Wayne Rogers
6th Eddie Dunn
7th James Adamson

Fast lap of the Main was by Mike Clark with a time of 6.087 seconds.

2014 Track Championship Results
Since Mike Clark did not Win and Jerry Evan finished 3rd – Mr. Jerry Evans would take the 2014 Track Championship.

Mike Clark would finish 2nd just 18 points back.
Eddie Dunn was not able to get his car back on track so Wayne Rogers finished one (1) place ahead of Eddie in the Main so Wayne Rogers would take 3rd Place.

Eddie Dunn would finish 4th just 7 points behind Wayne.
Scott Harper would be 5th, but he missed one of the Finale’ races while competing in the QSAC NCS Speed week races.

Official awards and pictures to be presented during the Annual Club Meeting in January.
