Oct 10 Finale' Race #3 of 4 Race Report

October 10th Finale’ Points Race # 3 of 4 Report for the 2015 Track Championship

Another good turnout for the Finale’ Points Race # 3 of 4. Weather was a little cool but comfortable.

Moving day for the 2015 Track Championship, would anyone move closer in points or solidify their position.

----------------------------
The top 3 in Sportsman Timed Qualifying were 1st Scott Harper (TNT) @ 6.128 seconds, 2nd Jerry Evans (TNT) @ 6.173 seconds and 3rd Tim Smith (Lightning) @ 6.234 seconds. Bonus Point for TQ of Timing Qualifying awarded to Scott Harper.

2nd Jerry Evans
3rd Tim Smith
4th James Adamson

Lap Leaders:
Scott Harper 1-50

Fast Lap of the Heat – Scott Harper (TNT) in 6.043 seconds.

Scott Harper dominated the race lapping the entire field in a totally caution free heat. All of his top 15 times were in the 6.0s. Everyone else 1/10 – 2/10ths slower. Scott had his eyes on collecting the Bonus Point to TQ of Heats with this start.

----------------------------

Sportsman Group 2 Heat #1 Racers were Wayne Rogers, David Popham, David Swearengin and Eddie Dunn.
Heat Results:
1st Wayne Rogers (Lightning)
2nd David Popham – 0.485 back

4th David Swearengin – 1.235 back

Lap Leaders:
Wayne Rogers 1 - 50

Fast Lap of the Heat – Eddie Dunn (Lightning) in 6.335 seconds.

Wayne Rogers would control this race running consistent times that kept him out front as no one was able to put a fender under him. The cars were very evenly match as everyone ran pretty good with the top 15 separation from 1st to 4th being just 71 thousandth of a second. A late caution caused the race to finish under yellow.

----------------------------

Sportsman Group 1 Heat #2 Racers were inverted and had James Adamson on Pole as the field was inverted.

Heat Results:
1st Jerry Evans (TNT)
2nd Scott Harper – 0.225 back
3rd Tim Smith – 5.862 back
4th James Adamson

Lap Leaders:
James Adamson 1-2
Tim Smith 3-5
Jerry Evans 6-50

Fast Lap of the Heat – Jerry Evans (TNT) in 5.989 seconds.

James Adamson led the 1st two laps and Tim Smith would led the next 3 laps where Jerry Evans then went to the front to stay. Jerry was saying no-to-fast I want the Bonus Point for TQ of the Heats. The battle was for 1st and 2nd with Scott Harper trying his best to get past Jerry Evans but he could not complete his attempts to pass. Jerry and Scott virtually ran identical times with just 3 hundreds of a second difference in their Top 15s. Again the entire heat was ran with no cautions.

 ----------------------------

Sportsman Group 2 Heat #2 Racers were inverted and had Eddie Dunn on Pole.
Heat Results:
1st Wayne Rogers (Lightning)
2nd David Popham
3rd David Swearengin
4th Eddie Dunn David Swearengin

Lap Leaders:
Eddie Dunn 1
David Popham 2-21
Wayne Rogers 22-50

Fast Lap of the Heat – David Popham (Lightning) in 6.295 seconds.

Eddie Dunn was quickly passed by David Popham for the lead and actually started driving away from everybody. The story of this Heat was mechanical issues. Eddie Dunn went out 1st on lap 9 and David Swearengin would exit the Heat on lap 19, who was then followed closely by David Popham while in the lead exiting on lap 22. Wayne then went into cruise control. David Popham got his car back on track 4 laps down and made up 1 of his laps before the end of the Heat. Wayne Rogers was now in the best position to take the TQ of the Heats and steal a Bonus Point from Scott and Jerry.

----------------------------

Sportsman Group 1 Heat #3 Racers had Scott Harper on Pole.

Heat Results:
1st Scott Harper (TNT)
2nd Jerry Evans – 1.132 back
3rd Tim Smith
4th James Adamson

Lap Leaders:
Scott Harper 1-50

Fast Lap of the Heat – Jerry Evans (TNT) in 6.012 seconds.

This time in the Heat it was Jerry Evans trying to catch and pass Scott Harper, the reverse of the last Heat. Both wanted to keep their selves in the chance to win the TQ of Heats Bonus Point. For the third time the entire Heat was caution free. Scott Harper made no mistakes and Jerry Evans could not get around Scott. Scott Harper would take the win by just 1.132 seconds. This time Scott and Jerry’s times in the top 15 were separated by 2 hundreds of a second closer together than the last Heat.

----------------------------

Sportsman Group 2 Heat #3 Racers had Wayne Rogers on Pole.

Heat Results:
1st Wayne Rogers (Lightning)
2nd David Swearengin – 3.244 back
3rd David Popham
4th Eddie Dunn – 0.698 back

Lap Leaders:
Wayne Rogers 1-8, 46-50
David Swearengin 9-45

Fast Lap of the Heat – David Swearengin (TNT) in 6.464 seconds.

Wayne Rogers would hold the lead until lap 9 where David Swearengin passed him for 1st. David Swearengin would then lead until lap 46 where Wayne Rogers who fell in line right behind David after he was passed on lap 9 would take the position passing David for the lead. Shortly thereafter there was a caution and the Heat finish under yellow with Wayne Rogers taking the win. Wayne and David’s times were almost identical throughout the entire Heat making it a tight race for the win.

 ----------------------------

Wayne Rogers would take the Bonus Point for TQ of the Heats.

  ----------------------------

The Heats were tabulated and the B Main was set.

Sportsman B Main:
Pole – David Swearengin
2nd – Tim Smith
3rd – Eddie Dunn
4th – James Adamson

Eddie Dunn would go out on the 1st lap due to broken chassis and the other 3 drivers decided to stop at that point.

1st David Swearengin (Bump Up)
2nd Tim Smith (Bump Up)
3rd James Adamson (Bump Up)
4th Eddie Dunn

----------------------------

Sportsman A Main Lineup

Pole – Wayne Rogers (Bonus Point for TQ of Heats)
2nd – Scott Harper James Adamson
3rd – Jerry Evans
4th – David Popham
5th - David Swearengin
6th – Tim Smith
7th – James Adamson

Wayne Rogers would quickly give up the lead to Scott Harper on lap 2. Scott Harper would hold that lead until lap 27 where Jerry Evans took the position on a restart – this would be signs of things to come.

On lap 73 right before halfway James Adamson broke something in his right front just as he reaccelerated in the transition from turn1 to turn 2 and the car took off basically at full speed and jumped the softwall and lodged itself between the softwall, the fence and a fence post. It took two people to have the strength to stretch the fence enough to dislodge the car from that position it was in. James would finish 7th.

At halfway it was Jerry Evans out front, Scott Harper 2nd, Tim Smith 3rd, David Swearengin 4th, Wayne Rogers 5th, and David Popham 6th.

Biggest movers were Jerry Evans and David Swearengin both moving up 2 positions.

Jerry Evans was better on the restarts while Scott Harper would be a bit better on the longer runs.

There were multiple restarts in the 2nd half of the race and as stated before Jerry Evans would get the advantage over Scott Harper and retain the lead.

The last restart came with 10 laps left. Jerry Evans again go the better restart and with Scott Harper closing it would come down to the last lap. Jerry Evans would win the Main by 0.295 seconds over 2nd place Scott Harper.

----------------------------

Finishing Order for Sportsman Main Finale Race # 3 of 4:
1st – Jerry Evans (Bonus Point for Main Win)
2nd – Scott Harper – 0.295 back
3rd – David Popham – 3.781 back
4th – Wayne Rogers – 5.836 back
5th – David Swearengin
6th – Tim Smith – 3.963 back
7th – James Adamson

Lap Leaders:
Wayne Rogers 1
Scott Harper 2- 26
Jerry Evans 27-150

Fast Lap of the Heat – Scott Harper (TNT) in 6.065 seconds.

The only changes in the Points Battle were everyone below Mike Clark who had not missed a Finale' Race would move up 1 position as he was not able to make the race. Both Jerry Evans and Wayne Rogers were able to stretch their points total difference since they both finished ahead of their closest competitors.
